Maine Memorial, New York City, 1913


USS. Maine Memorial:
It sits on the northeast corner of Columbus Circle 59th St entrance.In memory of The men who lost their lives in the ship sank in Havana, Cuba, Harbor in 1898. This sinking was the event that started off the Spanish-American War.




The names of the 266 sailors who perished are inscribed on the pedestal's monument.
The dedication reads:
"TO THE VALIANT SEAMEN
WHO PERISHED IN THE MAINE.
BY FATE UNWARNED.
IN DEATH UNAFRAID.
MDCCCXCVII MCMXII"
